General County Information

Jackson County is located in the south central part of Michigan.

Jackson County was formed in 1832 from Washtenaw County. The county seat is Jackson.
Other communities include Brooklyn, Cement City, Clarklake, Columbia, Concord, Grass Lake, Hanover, Horton, Liberty, Michigan Center, Munith, Napoleon, Norvell, Parma, Pulaski, Rives Junction, Spring Arbor, Springport, Stockbridge, Tompkins Center, and Vandercook Lake.

Runs the Lee Conklin Antique Organ Museum, houses a collection of Reed Organs, historical memorabilia, photos, Stoney Point ghost town artifacts, a classroom restored to turn of the century appearance, a switchboard, and a rug loom.

The Michigan USGenWeb Project

In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.

This is an outgrowth of that original Kentucky project.

At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. Contact the volunteer shown on the county page if you have a desire to add your data to the database. If the county in which you are interested does not have a page and you wish to participate, please contact Jan Cortez, the Michigan Coordinator, and request the sample web page be sent to you. If you would like to contribute your data, or are just curious, feel free to subscribe to one of the information lists through the list page.
